Time to Play "Face the Racist"

The other night, I turned on CNN in hopes of getting some intelligent Presidential election coverage and instead I happened to catch a follow up commentary by John Sununu on Piers Morgan.

John is no stranger to making a complete ass out of himself on national television, but at the (1:02) mark of this clip something more sinister showed through his thin veneer.





John Sununu - "When you take a look at Colin Powell, you have to wonder whether that's an endorsement based on issues or whether he's got a slightly different reason for preferring President Obama."

Piers Morgan - "What reason would that be?"

John Sununu - "Well ... I think when you have somebody of your own race that you're proud of being President of the United States, I applaud Colin for standing with him."

When you take a look at Colin Powell ... ?

What are we looking at?

Are we looking at his black skin, John?

Perhaps we should be looking at your cold black heart, John.

I had my coat on, and was ready to go toilet paper my local Republican Party campaign office, when a glimmer of light appeared on my TV.

I cannot tell you how impressed I am by Lawrence Wilkerson in this clip. The world needs more men and women like this ... brave enough to speak out in the face of this kind of ugliness.

Col. Wilkerson's chilling comments are tradgically echoed by new polling results released by the Associated Press today.

- 51% of Americans now express anti-black attitudes, compared with 48% in a similar 2008 survey.

- When measured by an implicit tacial attitudes test, the number of Americans with anti-black sentiments jumped to 56%, up from 49% during the last Presidential election.

- 52% of non-Hispanic whites expressed anti-Hispanic attitudes. That figure rose to 57% in the implicit test.

As coincidence would have it, the polls also show 51-52% of Americans behind Romney/Ryan.

A Life Well Lived

Today, America lost one of its great politicians ... and more importantly a decent man.

Senator George McGovern passed away this morning at the age of 90.

In his 50+ years as a public servant, McGovern made major contributions to the anti-war and civil rights movements. In his later years, he immersed himself in the fight to end world hunger. His 1972 Presidential run helped launch the political careers of Bill Clinton and Hillary Rodham.

I'd like to think that we will see future politicians cut from his cloth, but I highly doubt it.

Always remember where you were at 11pm on November 4th, 2008.

I couldn't believe it, but I had tears in my eyes.

Pathetic

In the days leading up to the election today, several phony fliers and text messages have been circulated in an effort to stop Democratic voters in key battleground states from coming out to the voting stations.

One targeted black voters, warning them of possible arrest.




Another bogus flier appeared in Franklin County, Ohio.





In Virginia, a phony State Board of Elections flier advising Republicans to vote on Nov. 4 and Democrats on Nov. 5 was being circulated in several Hampton Roads localities, according to state elections officials.




State elections officials have apparently identified the people responsible, but have refused to release their names and no charges will be filed.

When asked about this, a representative from the McCain camp suggested that "anyone naive enough to be fooled by these tricks should perhaps not be allowed to vote in this election".

That is a very good point.

Perhaps naive people should be disqualified from many different things.

VOTE ... If only for the free stuff.

Even if you think your vote won't decide the election, go out and vote for the free stuff.

The Bradley Effect?

The "Bradley effect" is named for Tom Bradley, an African-American candidate who was running for Governor of California in 1982.




Many of the voter polls leading up to the election had Tom Bradley well ahead of the Republican candidate George Deukmejian. In fact, based on the exit polls, a number of media outlets had already projected him as the winner. Bradley ultimately lost the race.

The "Bradley effect" refers to an alleged tendency on the part of some voters to tell pollsters that they are undecided or likely to vote for a black candidate, and yet, on election day, vote for his or her white opponent.

An example of this theory was quite possibly seen earlier this year during the New Hampshire Democratic primary.

Take a very close look at this AOL poll (Taken today).



Right now, if you are asking yourself: "what the fuck does someone's skin color have to do with their ability to be President of the United States" ... Congratulations ... you are not a racist.

Sometimes you need to read between the lines to find an answer to a very simple question.

I have heard the first thing she wants to do is work on lowering the price of oil. However, it will most likely be sun tan oil.

Perhaps the most disturbing thought is that the average man on the street is more familiar with "A Night in Paris" than Senator Evan Bayh.

Perhaps even more disturbing is that she would most likely get more votes than Senator Bayh.

The numbers look bad

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama won endorsements from five superdelegates yesterday and one today, erasing rival Hillary Clinton's long-held lead in backing from party officials and lawmakers.




With the Bloomberg superdelegate count now standing at 277 to 274 in Obama's favor, Hillary Clinton's presidential bid now looks mathematically impossible.
