SO MUCH TROUBLE IN THE WORLD

Big Surprise

The Pentagon said today that 61 former detainees from its military prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, appear to have returned to terrorism since their release from custody.

This comes as a shock to US military officials who expected that released prisoners would immediately assimilate themselves into American society and open their own McDonald's franchise.

Well hell, isn't everyone that is renditioned and held for years, not to mention tortured given a McDonald's fanchise as a condition of being released?

How dare they thumb their noses at that! ;p

Hey Peter, definitely off topic with this post here, but I was wondering if you had any thoughts on the best movies of 2008, seeing as you work in the film industry. With the oscar nominations being announced this week, maybe you could do a post on your own movie picks.

I haven't had a lot of time to watch movies this year, but from what I have seen and what I have heard from friends ...

(In no special order)

1) Slumdog Millionaire
2) The Dark Knight
3) The Wrestler
4) Frost / Nixon
5) Milk
6) Taxi To The Dark Side
7) Rachel Getting Married
8) Burn After Reading
9 Man on Wire
10) Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Good list. I pretty much agree with everything there, although I still need to see The Wrestler and Burn After Reading (and I saw Langella and Sheen perform Frost/Nixon in NYC, which I hear the movie is basically a straight adaptation of the play).

Curious Case of Benjamin Button was also very unique/ambitious, and I'm a big fan of Sam Mendes so I also recommend Revolutionary Road.

I really think Slumdog Millionaire deserves best picture.
