SO MUCH TROUBLE IN THE WORLD

Because they would have wanted it that way

Just when you thought we had reached the absolute limits of tasteless, and just in time for the fifth anniversary of September 11th, the National Collectors Mint has produced the 9/11 commemorative gold piece.

The Twin Towers majestically stand again, in .999 pure silver that was recovered from a bank vault found under the debris at Ground Zero. The skyline featuring the World Trade Center is struck separately and fitted into the coin's background. This World Trade Center skyline can be removed and inserted into a slot on the face of the commemorative.

I think I am going to be sick.

is the national mint, or whomever, even a government program? are they like the franklin mint.

i'm not so much disturbed by the image--even though it pops up which is ust plain strange--than the fact that they seem to be implying this is an authentic piece of gold from the trade center. again, i don't think our actual mint produced this. ergo, misleading and a lie. nice. i think i'm going to go over to their site and send them an email with a ton of questions. just because

I'm surprised they dont give you a minature sized silver airplane you can use to "crash" against the standing building to topple it
and therefore having the opportunity of reenacting the event time after classic time again!! :S

I seem to remember a news story a year or two ago about one of these "mints" claiming that the silver for their World Trade Center coins was from ground zero. They basically said that there was no bank with a vault of silver or gold involved with the collapsing of the towers. Furthermore, that if there was such a bank, the precious metals would have been returned to them.

Also, as a survivor of 9/11 (I was a block from the towers when the 2nd plane hit and got buried in that lovely debris cloud) I gotta say this is pretty low, but I understand why people would buy it. It was such a horrific event that I know I still cannot grasp what went on. Somehow watching movies about it, or buying commemorative objects sometimes makes us feel like we're wrapping our heads around it a little better. Still, I don't think I'll be placing an order for that one anytime soon. Ugh.

That's really incredible. Wonder what Ann Coulter's gonna say about it. (Not really, by the way...)

I'm not sure if they are being released now in order to coincide with the five-year anniversary or if to tie-in with the release of the 'World Trade Center' movie. Does the Burger King Kid's Meal have anything to do with this?
